Aust, joint bowls leader
NZPA London Australia and England are joint leaders of the fours in the women’s world bowls championship in Worthing, Sussex. After eight rounds, the Australians share 12 points with England, two ahead of Scotland. In yesterday’s competition, Australia beat Guernsey, 3011, and Ireland 22-16. In the sixth round of the fours New Zealand beat Hong Kong, 23-14, then was beaten, 25-15, by England in the seventh round. In the e’ght round Malawi beat New Zealand, 24-17.
In singles play, Elsie Wilkie (N.Z.) beat Mavis Steele (England), 21-12, in the seventh round, then beat Peggy Chalmers (Malawi), 21-15, in the eighth.
