Stowaway fined
PA . Auckland Michael Joseph Horua, aged 23, found himself in Melbourne last week with no money and no job, and he wanted to get back to New Zealand. He knew someone on board the Union Hobart, which was berthed at Melbourne, and decided to stow away. However, he was found by police and customs officers when the ship arrived at Auckland on Sunday night. Horua’s story unfolded in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court yesterday when he was fined $25 and ordered to pay $135 restitution to the shipping line on the charge of stowing away. Mr W. J. Mitchell, S.M., said Horua’s method of getting to New Zealand was effective but against the law.
