Australians set for first win
NZPA Bristol The Australian cricketers are poised for their first victory of the tour when they resume their second innings against Gloucestershire today. The not out batsmen, Greg Chappell (42), and Kim Hughes (8), have a lead of 163 to build on after Max Walker skittled the county side for 63. Walker took seven for 19 in one of the best performances of his career, after the Australians had been put out for 154 on a grassy pitch with an irregular bounce. The match could well finish today, although batting should be easier without the blustery wind which blew on Sunday. If it does, the Australians have agreed to play a limited overs match tomorrow. The Australian manager, Mr Len Maddocks, said the team would be glad of the extra practice, but asked the county to make sure the game finished before 5.30 p.m. as the Australian team had to make an early start to London tomorrow night. Scores: — Australia 154 (Bright 53 n. 0., Walters 32; Brain 7/51) and 72/2, Gloucestershire 63 (A. Stovold 22; Walker 7/19, Malone 3/44).
