Church sells shares
?A Wellington The Roman Catholic Archbishop of New Zealand (Cardinal Delargey) recently sold a block of shares owned by the Roman Catholic Church because the return from them was too great. “The profits being made were way out of proportion,” he told a meeting of the Wellington Rotary Club. “I just wasn’t going to have anything to do with them,” he said. He wanted to put Church money where people would benefit rather than be exploited. Cardinal Delargey was speaking about morality in business and international economics. There was an “uneasy feeling” that all was not well in the world, he said. “We must search deep into ourselves and come up with ideals and then we must put them into practice. However Small our contribution to the wellbeing of the world, we must make it.” When approached yesterday, Cardinal Delargey said he could not give any more details about the shares-
