Contraception and abortion

Sir,—The national executive of the Medical Women’s Association, while discussing the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion, has said that a woman approved for abortion will have, inter alia to, ". . . find an obstetrician to perfonn the operation as directed.” The commission does not recommend this. If an application for abortion is granted, the woman is to be referred to a hospital or a clinic without delay and there is no suggestion that an obstetrician is needed for abortions. — Yours, etc., G. E. DALZIEL (Mrs) May 19, 1977.
