Behaviour at the Town Hall
Sir, — I certainly agree with Dennis Wilkinson’s letter. I go to many entertainments in the Town Hall and they are all spoilt for me by latecomers. If they came in quietly and looked ashamed of themselves it •would not be so bad; but they look so pleased with themselves, laugh, and talk. During the interval in the St Matthew Passion the back of my seat was kicked all the time. Recently a couple arrived late and were not allowed in. The usher’s attention was distracted for a few moments and when she turned round the couple had gone in. The Christchurch Town Hall is the best in New Zealand. Surely it should be the first to have the doors closed when a performance begins. The ushers’ work is not easy and we should try to help them, not hinder them. I for one am most g*ateful for all they do for me.— Yours, etc.. D. AUSTIN. April 6, 1977.
