Botanic Gardens
Sir.—As a visitor to Christchurch I always walk in the Botanic Gardens I think of these gardens when I return home. When I see them again they exceed my memories. Where else would you see such magnificent specimens of trees'? The layout is full of wonderful views. When it is thought that a walk is finished, another avenue of perfect specimens comes into view. The water gardens are particularly fine. All credit to the designers and those who carry out the care. I wonder whether Christchurch people realise what they have in the Botanic Gardens. 1 also had the pleasure of a trip to Sumner along the Estuary of the Heathcote where I saw interesting waders. I understand there is a move afoot to allow speed-boats in this Estuary. May I make a plea for these waders. Their habitats have b°en greatlv reduced. Speed-boats would
adversely affect them. — Yours, etc., C. H. HUGHES-JOHNSON. Wanganui. April 7. 1977.
