3M strike in Tokyo
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo More than three million Japanese workers have gone on strike to back pay demands, disrupting train schedules, halting mail deliveries, and affecting production in the metals and textiles industries. The walk-out. for periods ranging from 30 minutes to 24 hours, was part of the annual spring labour offensive for pay increases ranging from 15 to 19 per cent. State railwaymen stopped work for 24 hours, and radical Left-wingers added to: traffic congestion by blocking highways in Tokyo and three; other cities with cars and trucks, several of them stolen.
