Cecotto wins first grand prix
NZPA-Reuter San Carlos Johnny Cecotto, of Venezuela, won the 350 cu. cm race in the Venezuelan motor-cycle grand prix, the first event of the 1977 world championship series.
Cecotto, on a Yamaha, led from the start and was never in danger of being overtaken. Victor Palomo (Spain) was second, followed by Patrick Fernandez (France). Barry Sheene (Britain) on a Suzuki won the 500 cu cm event ahead of an American, Steve Baker, on a Yamaha. In third place was Pat Hennen (United States), riding a Suzuki.
