Hayes wins U.S. golf
NZPA-Reuter Jacksonville Mark Hayes birdied the final hole for an even-par 72 and first place in the SUS3OO,OOO Tournament Players championship at the difficult Sawgrass golf course in Florida.
Hayes, who collected SUS6O,OOO, finished with a 72-hole total 289, one over par.
Mike McCullough, who was in the lead through the first three rounds, also birdied the last hole to finish second at 291.
Bruce Devlin (Australia) and Hale Irwin each suffered a bogey on the final hole to tie for third at 292. Graham Marsh (Australia) was at 293 with Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.
