Wolf howls in store
A pack of American timber wolves will be brought to Orana Park soon, to join the lions and other wildlife there. The director of the park (Mr P. Garland), said that negotiations had just been completed with Auckland Zoo for the wolves. "The climate and terrain are far more suitable for them here,” he said. The six timber wolves, three males and three females, will be put in a 65m by 30m enclosure among pine trees. A 3m fence will protect the public. The cost of the enclosure — expected to take two months to build — had been met by a group of Christchurch businessmen, said Mr Garland. The wolves will be brought to the park as soon as the enclosure is ready.
