Use of coal in industry urged

Stairmand) was speaking lin Oamaru at a seminar organised by his company on 'the pulversied fuel method iof coal-fired boiler operation, j About 60 engineers, coal | industry representatives, and I management people attended I the seminar, which centred :on the new’ $350,000 boiler installation at Alliance Textiles (N.Z.), Ltd. | Mr Stairmand said that under the Government's I energy-pricing policy, coal was now costing 80 per cent of oil and not the 68 per cent asserted in some I official circles. These should 'be an end to planning for I coal in electricity generation, so that more could be available for industry in the upper half of the North Island.
Transport was another factor which mitigated against supplying coal for power generation, Mr Stairmand said.
