Trade index drops again
PA Wellington New Zealand’s terms of trade deteriorated again slightly in the third quarter of last year, as import costs increased more than export prices. The trend is shown in provisional figures just released by the Department of Statistics.
With the year 1957 as the index base of 100, the terms of trade dropped from 75 in the second quarter of 1976 to 74 in the third quarter. The export price index rose from 230 to 237, but the import price index showed a bigger increase, from 305 to 318.
