Cricketer’s visit to South Africa
Sir, — I really feel that the comments made by H. K. Mahanty are irrelevant, including a suggestion that National Front members are ignorant. The facts are that Bangladesh is a satellite of India and that legislation against caste discrimination is for world consumption, not practical application. There has never been an untouchable in any Indian or Pakistani sports team. Housing, public water supplies and other facilities are also denied to these people. While the vast majority of people in Bangladesh are Islamic, there are a number of Hindus w r ho continue the caste system. As regards separate development, what other system provides for self-government with massive financial aid? Certainly the Administrations of the Indian sub-continent cannot seriously advocate their shambles as more desirable. — Yours, etc., DAVID CRAWFORD. Chairman, National Front. March 23, 1977.
