Little delay at crossing
Traffic was not "unreasonably” delayed at the new pedestrian and cycle crossing on Harper Avenue; it was held up only 25 minutes, the Automobile Association (Canterbury) was told last evening. About 400 cycles, and a similar number of pedestrians. used the crossing every hour, so the lights there were fully justified, the Christchurch Citv Council traffic engineer (Mr M. Gaddi said in a letter to the association. A subwav had been proposed by the council, but it had had to defer to a •‘lesser scheme” through lack of funds. Possibly the measure would be onlv temnorary. Mr H. M. Meyers said that motorists might he better warned of the crossing if flashing amber lights were installed.
