Man against machine
More than 300 Lincoln College students will pit their combined strength against an eight-tonne tractor tomorrow. as part of the college’s orientation programme. With more than 500 new students to call on for further assistance, the organisers of the orientation programme, which will last for the next two weeks, are confident that man will outmatch machine in the unusual tug-of-war. For the first time for many years, all residential accommodation, both in hostels and [flats, was full, and it was most important that every effort was made to help build a sense of community at Lincoln College, a member of the orientation committee (Mr S. Copp) said yesterday.
"We are fairly isolated out here, and we want to do everything possible to ensure that all the new students find something special to identify with at the college. This orientation fortnight will give us a good basis for all the social and educational activities for the next year,” Mr Copp said.
