Rangatira to be a floating pub?
The pride of the Union Company’s fleet, the former interisland ferry, Rangatira, looks like ending up as a floating hotel for construction workers on the North Sea oil field. The Rangatira has been laid up in Falmouth since last October waiting for a buyer and now European interests seem to be showing a keen interest in her sale. Union Company officials in Wellington are reported as saying that negotiations were well underway for her sale as floating accommodation for workers building oil drilling platforms in the North Sea. It was also confirmed that two engineers and an electrician recently flew to Britain to help with the Rangatira's pre-sale survey. ARRIVAL Union Sydney <8.23 a.m.), 4752. Capt. A. Dodds.
