United has 5-0 win
Trans Tours United virtually assured itself of winning Section One of the regional Air New Zealand soccer tournament last night by coasting to a 5-0 win over Western.
United now has eight points from four games, and has scored 17 goals for four against. Woolston is nearest, with four points from three games. It would have to win its game with United on Sunday by an enormous margin to have any chance.
Playing at Queen Elizabeth II Park, United was five goals up by half-time, and was Quite content to sit on its lead for the rest of the game. Kevin Mulgrew sco-red a hat-trick, with Mark McNaughton and lan Park getting one goal each. At MacFarlane Park Rangers kept the pressure on New Brighton in section two by beating Cashmere Wanderers, 4-0. This section will hinge on Sunday’s match between the two leaders.
Neil Francis scored twice, and Malcolm Parker and Chris Cawley netted one each.
