Colt brings $40,000
AAP Brisbane The Brisbane trainer. Jack Clayton, out-bid the powerful Tommy Smith stable to establish a new record price for the Brisbane Yearling Sales yesterday. Clayton, acting for an undisclosed client, went to $40,000 for a colt by Without Fear. The price topped the previous record for the sales by $9OOO.
Clayton staged a bidding duel with Smith’s brother. Ernie, after the opening bid of $20,000. Smith pulled out at $39,000 and Clayton thrust home with the successful final $lOOO offer. The colt, a magnificent type by the champion South Australian sire. Without Fear, from the imported mare, Celtic Music, was bred by Eureka Stud, Cambooya.
Eureka previously held the Queensland record for a colt, $21,000 for a youngster by Sobig.
