Award to Hamilton council
The Environmental Award of the Institution of Engineers has been made to the waterpollution control plant of the Hamilton City Council.
T h e award was presneted to representatives of the Hamilton City Council and of the consulting engineers, Steven and Fitzmaurice, at the annual conference in Christchurch of the Institution of Engineers.
The Environmental Award was first made in 1972. It is made every two years for projects which “manifest environmental concern and judgment in engineering work, with environmental factors identified and taken into account during design and construction.” The first award, in 1972, was made to the Ministry of Works and Development for the motorway entry to Wellington. In 1974 it was awarded to the Electricity Department, for the Aviemore project, and to the Ministry of Works and Development, for the State Highway 1 deviation at Wairakei.
