Outa Bounds on course
By 808 SCHUMACHER. i Outa Bounds never strayed I from the straight and narrow ! as he sped to an impressive vicItory In the Bond Street Stakes ' for open greyhounds at the Christchurch Club’s equallsator meeting at Queen Elizabeth n Park last evening. But the winning trainer, Bill GUI. of Loburn, must have had mixed sentiments about the race. While Outa Bounds was surging to his easy win, Gill’s other representative, Hobbs Galore — one of the country’s best bitches — had pulled up on the home bend. After going only 50 metres, Hobbs Galore came to a sudden halt. Gill took her immediately to a veterinarian and she had apparently strained a muscle in her hindquarters. Under the club’s rules she will be unable to race for a month and there is some doubt as to whether she will chase again. Outa Bounds has compiled a great record on the Q.E. II track and there was no disputing the best dog on the night. The Red Baron-Smooth Flight youngster was back with Greek Goddess when the field cleared the traps for the 350 metres sprint. Smokey Eyes, having her first start for several months, showed out first from the inside box, but the South Island champion and former track record-holder for the sprint distance. Rex Havoc, quickly gained control. However, Outa Bounds has great powers of acceleration, and he had dashed along the rails to lead into the home straight. He was out by himself at the finish with Rex Havoc plugging on for second and Smokey Eyes doing well to hold third from Greek Goddess. Satin Miss,
which showed speed over the first 100 metres, drifted to the rear. Dave Buzzard had a night many trainers dream about. He had three acceptors In three races and all came home at the head of the field. Saccaharine (El Gazelle—Roaming Rosita) won her third successive race and the 16-month-old puppy was just a little over one tenth of a second outside the track record for the 590 metres. Tango Hobbs led Saccaharine into the first bend, but the small brindle bitch was in charge down the back and she cruised home to win by seven lengths. Later in the evening her litter brother. Roaming Gazelle — a powerful black dog — won the second progressive race just as easily. Buzzard also trained Xanthippe (Ballykltly — Diana) to win the last race from Dalta Dawn and Tina Dancer with the other runners well beaten Hl Pam, making a grand beginning from the outside box won the first maiden comfortab y from Cee Tee. Counterfeet gained a deserved win In the second maiden. He was third down the back straight out always appeared to be galloping easily and pulled away from Friendly Casper m the final 100 metres Results:— Juvenile Stakes, puppy 590 - Saccaharine (D.
