Okains Bay museum
The public opening of the Okains Bay museum was a resounding success, according to its founder, Mr Murray Thacker. “We raised about $l2OO yesterday, and I was very pleased with the number of people here,” Mr Thacker said.
During the afternoon, there was a hangi, the Navy raised the flag in honour of Waitangi Day, and Maoris performed a haka. Mr Thacker will form a trust and transfer to public ownership his museum and its exhibits. On Saturday, there was a gathering by invitation for 450 people who have helped the project in various ways.
