TURNER ON TOP
The transfer from Otago to Northern Districts of the New Zealand opening batsman and captain, Glenn Turner, has obviously had no ill effects on his prolific scoring. Turner accumulated 632 runs during the Shell Cup round, nearly 200 more than any other player, and was well clear of his rivals in the first-class averages. Jeremy Coney (Wellington) and lan Rutherford (Otago) also had averages in excess of 50, with Peter Coman (Canterbury) next on the list. The Wellington all-rounder, Brian Cederwali, finished ahead of two Canterbury representatives, Dayle Hadlee and Stephen Boock, among the bowlers, while Ewen Chatfield (Wellington) claimed most dismissals. Coney and Hedley Howarth (Auckland) held most catches in the field, and John Reid (Auckland) was the most successful wicket-keeper. Leading averages were:— BATTING
