Danger at beaches

Several persons had to he deterred from using lilos on Christchurch beaches yesterday when strong winds caused a southerly drift, making conditions dangerous. Although reasonably big crowds were at most beaches, there was only one rescue by surf patrols. A man. caught in a rip at Woodend Beach, was rescued just before 6 p.m. Many surfers rode the Im waves, although conditions were considered hazardous by beach patrols.
