Rich drug haul
PA Auckland Drug squad detectives netted one of the biggest marijuana hauls in the last 12 months during a raid on an Auckland motel this week. The 60kg of marijuana sticks packed into two large suiteases is estimated to be worth at least $300,000 on the street. The sticks, which normally cost about $lO each, could have fetched as much as $l7 each because of a recent “drought” on the marijuana market. The sticks, in transparent wrapping, crammed the suitcases. The head of Auckland’s drug squad. Detective Chief Inspector P. M. Gentry, said the haul was certainly one of the biggest of the last year, but it was not as big as some finds made in 1975. The marijuana had come from South-East Asia originally, he said.
