Accused Mold he could go
Palmerston North
No plea was taken when Roger Irwin Meaclem, aged 27, a manager, of Levin, appeared in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of threatening to kill David Allen Johnstone, on December 25, at Levin. Mr V. J. Bateman, J.P., remanded Meacrim in custody to appear in the Levin Magistrate’s Court on January' 27. The duty solicitor. Mr L. W. Goodman, said Meaclem was concerned about the amount of press and radio publicity, particularly when he was referred to as dangerous. Mr Goodman said Meaclem had been told by the staff at Lake Alice Hospital that he was free to go. They could not do anything for him, and could not hold hi any longer. He had not escaped — he had been free to go. He had been shocked when he read that he was dangerous, and had given himself up to the police as soon as possible.
