Two Canterbury and Wharenui age-group water polo players, John Koens and Paul Rowe, have been named in a squad of 17 from which the first New Zealand under-19 team will be chosen. Both of them are still eligible for the under-15 grade, but they were yesterday named at the conclusion of the Trans Tours national club championship, Koens had already left the Naenae pool for Christchurch, and Rowe was not a member of the Wharenui team competing in the club championship. Neither was Eddy Smolders, another member of the club, and another originally not named in the squad but chosen this time. Two leading contenders from Canterbury, Matt Lewis and Derek Ferigo, were not available, but another Wharenui player, its reserve goalie, Rob Lewington, has been i named.
