Cold front kinder to Chch
The cold front which caused torrential rain in Wellington yesterday was considerably less harsh on Christchurch. From midnight yesterday to 6 p.m. yesterday, about B.3mm of rain fell, compared with the 121 mm which fell in Wellington during the same period. According to the Weather Office, Christchurch escaped the worst of the rain because it was further from the centre of the depression, which passed over Wellington. Had the centre of the front moved nearer Christchurch, the Southern Alps would have borne the worst of it.
