Sally Chapman has upset tennis win

]PA Wellington Sally Chapman of Canterbury, made the breakthrough she has been seeking against her experienced provincial team-mate, Robin Hunt, at Central Park, Wellington, yesterday. The much-improved 18-year-old, still qualifying for the juniors, held her serve in the third set to beat Mrs Hunt, a former national singles champion and second seed, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. and caused the first major upset of the Wellington open tennis championship. sponsored by C. Miss Chapman, ranked ninth in the country, said: “I’ve been up in matches against Robin before, and even though I’ve got close, I have lost every time.” In the other section of the women’s draw the correct seeds came through, with the favourite, Pauline Elliott, having another straight-set win, this time over Sheryl Tebbutt. Shelley Monds had a sound win over Christine Newton (Canterbury).
