New hospital to open first wing
The first of three 24-bed i wings in a new private geriatric hospital at Cashmere i will open for patients on December 23. Long-term and short-term ! patients will be taken, and al- ' ready six bookings have been iconfirmed. The hospital is being built [by Cashmere View Hospital, Ltd, the directors and owners I of which are Mr Q. C. van der Veer, a joint managing-dir-jector of the St Nicholas Private Medical Hospital, and Mr R. A. Bail, managing director I of the Bethesda Medical Hospital. It is hoped to have the second wing open bv February and the third by March. The hospital, which is opposite
I I the geriatric assessment unit at Princess Margaret Hospi- : tai, is estimated to cost about $500,000. Each wing will cater for a different patient — the very sick, the mentally frail, and those who have suffered a stroke or heart attack. However, until all wings are finished, patients will be mixed. By June, it is hoped to have eight self-contained flats ■ finished round the hospital. These are for physically frail ■ elderly, who might need help from hospital staff in bathing, or meals delivered from the hospital. Eventually it is hoped to! have 40 such flats, double orl single. Each flat is estimated; to cost about $20,000.
