Situation: A ridge of high pressure is moving away to the east of the North Island, and a weak frontal zone is advancing north-easterwards over the South Island. Forecast: Marlborough,. Nelson; Fresh but decreasing northerlies about the Sounds, elsewhere winds moderate and rather variable, with a south-west change possible about the Kaiakoura coast
during the day; variable cloud, with some outbreaks of rain about the Sounds and a few showers to the west of Nelson; fair elsewhere; mild. Buller, Westland: Westerlies predominating; showers and fair periods; a little cooler. Canterbury: Variable winds, possibly turning to the south-west for a time; generally fine weather, but a little cooler. Outlook: mainly fair.
