Another 66 for Lister
p \ Hamilton John Lister, in playing one of the most remarkable rounds ever on the par 72 Lochiel course in Hamilton yesterday, emerged as a clear-cut leader by four strokes at the half-way point in the $14,001) Meadovvsfreight Waikato charity golf tournament.
Lister, who for rhe second time in three davs equalled [his own course record of 66,] played the first five holes in [only fifteen strokes, four
under par. Out in 31, five under the card, he scored birdies at the first, third, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth holes and dropped a shot when he had tree trouble at the seventh. He was obviously quite unhappy with himself coming home in 35. with a sole birdie at the thirteenth and par figures at the other eight holes. The only heavy shower of the day as he played the last ‘two holes probably cost him a new course record and an even handier lead. At the par five 457 metre eighteenth hole
his number four iron second stopped dead where it landed for once he-chipped weakly and the five metre birdie putt never looked likely to drop. But his 66 gave him a four stroke lead from his playing partner and first day joint leader. Tern' Kendall, who scored 70 yesterday. Kendall’s first half was
l'tradesmanlike but he wa 11 working hard to save pars or [■the homeward nine, notab 1\ - when he exploded from ont
bunker to another on thr thirteenth. J. Clifford, of Perth, with 68 and 70, and David Goer (Tasmania), 70, 68. share thirc place with 138. Leading scores:— 133—J. Lister (N.Z.). 67. 66 137—T.
