Australians win diving
PA Hamilton It was all-Australian finals in the annual Swedish flag diving competition at the Waikato University pool in Hamilton. The New? South Wales open champion, John Pendall, easily took the men’s title from his club-mate, Sandy Phipps, W'hile the Australian winter champion, Janine Pelham (Tasmania), had an equally convincing victory over Karen Berman (New South Wales) in the women’s finals.
The top Waikato and New Zealand divers, Graeme Shaw and Ruth Millar, were eliminated in the semi-finals by the eventual winners, but New Zealand found victory in the clat finals.
Wayne Taumata (Wanganui) and Susan Bankier (Waikato), also knocked out of the main competitions by Pendall and Miss Pelham respectively, triumphed over their Australian rivals Robert Harcourt (South Australia) and Karyn Sanders (New South Wales).
