Broadcasting bill

Sir, — It is not being naive, Mr D. W. O. Jones, to know that the public are very dissatisfied with the bias in news offered by the broadcasting services during the past year, and with the Broadcasting Bill they are hoping for a return to an unbiased news service. Broadcasting being financed from public funds should be under public control as in the case of Government departments. The autonomy enjoyed by broadcasting since restructuring in 1975, has produced a Left-biased service, giving Labour free propaganda. I also respect freedom of speech, initiative, and creativity, but deplore arrogance, rudeness, and lack of courtesy. Politeness and respect should, at all times, be the "‘hall-mark” of a searching competent interviewer. The Broadcasting Bill, it is hoped, will restore a measure of discipline over the actions of the broad= casting services. — Yours, etc.,

R. V. SHAW December 15, 1976.
