Problem of pollution

The problem of pollution at New Zealand holiday resorts is the topic of a new community service programme which will be screened on South Pacific Television in January.

The programme. "Watermark.” is a series of 10 five-minute reports to be screened over four weeks after “New at Six.” The producer is Rhys Jones and his all-female “Sunday Best” team will be doing the reports from their various districts.

They will include Jenny Mclntyre of Christchurch. Rhelda Familton of Wellington. Sue Kellaway of Hamilton and Bunty Finny of Auckland. Bunty will also co-ordinate and present the programme. Rhys Jones said the reports would be looking at the degree of pollution in the areas they would be areas where there was visiting, particularly in the danger of the problem getting worse. “The idea is to be objective, not subjective and we will be advising on preventative measures that can be taken,” he said.

Areas they will be visiting, starting on December 17, include the Bay of Islands, Waitemata Harbour, Rotorua, Tauranga, Taupo, Wellington. Marlborough Sounds, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin.
