' Pubfc Notices I NOTICE BY CITY COUNCIL PROHIBITING CONSUMPTION OR POSSESSION OF INTOXICATING LIQUOR IN STREETS CLOSED FOR PUBLIC GATHERING THE CHKISTI HL RUH CITY COUNCIL (hereinafter referred to as the CouncilHEREBY GIVES NOTICE that, pursuant to section 2o4ta‘i of> the Municipal Corporations Act 1954. the Council has; resolved as follows:— i CLOSURE OF STREETS: THAT during the holding of the New Year’s Celebrations. Cathedral Square. Colom ho Street, (north of the intersection with Hereford Street, south of the intersection with Gloucester Street). Worcester Street feast of the intersection with Oxford Terrace, west of the intersec-1 lion with Manchester Street). Hereford Street. Plaza Lane.: i the right-of-way east of; - Colombo Street adjoining the; Masonic Hotel (hereinafter referred to as the specified streets) shall be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic for the following period (hereinafter referred to as the . period of closure): December 31. 1976—between! the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.. January 1, 1977. ACTS PROHIBITED EN I SPECIFIED STREETS: THAT the following acts be : prohibited during the period of closure: (i) The drinking of intoxicat-! ing liquor in the specified streets. (ii) The bringing of intoxicating liquor or empty glass intoxicating liquor containers into the specified streets. (iii) The possession ol intoxicating liquor or empty glass intoxicating liquor containers in the specified streets- ■ (iv) The driving or riding of any motor vehicle in the specified streets during the specified period. EXEMPTIONS: The resolution does not prohibit: premises on land having a* • -aj The carrying of intoxicating liquor from or . streets; if ' (i) The premises are licensed premises as defined in the Sale ofi frontage to the specified Liquor Act 1962, and, in the case of the carriage of liquor from the premises, liquor may lawfully be sold during the period of closure; or (ii) The liquor is being carried by or for delivery to a person residing on those premises or his bona fide visitors, provided the liquor is promptly removed from the street. (b) The driving or riding of any motor vehicle from or to premises having a frontage to the specified streets by a person residing in those premises or his bone fide visitors. ! POWERS OF POLICE: : A further effect of the , resolution of the Council is.j ' that any constable may, with-! out warrant—(a) Arrest any person whom he finds committing an' offence as hereinafter mentioned; (b> During the period oi the 1 closure, arrest any person; whom he has reasonable cause to suspect of hav-.l ing committed • such an offence; (c) Search any parcel, package. bag, case, or other container in the possesi sion of any person in or; entering or about to enter , the specified streets dur- ; ing the period of closure, for the purpose of ascer- 1 taining whether or not thei parcel, package, bag, case.' or container contains any ! intoxicating liquor or any empty glass intoxicating liquor container, unless the person in possession I of the parcel, package,! bag, case, or other container removes it from or, as the case may be, refrains from taking it into the specified streets and leaves it outside those streets until the period of closure then applying has expired. Any constable may seize and remove any intoxicating liquor and any intoxicating liquor container which he has reasonable cause to believe would be evidence of the commission of such an offence.
