Compton second in Bombay

PA Wellington In a telephone message from India to New Zealand, the Racing Conference secretary ■Mr A. R Algie) reported that the New Zealand jockey, Bruce Compton, was narrowly beaten tn an international riders' race at Bombay on Sunday. Mr Algie and Compton, along with the assistant manager of the T.A.8.. Mr T. G. Keogh, the Racing Conference president, Mr A M. Hughes, and the president of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association. Mr TV. E. W. Ormond, are guests of the thirteenth Asian Racing Conference. Compton was invited to I ride in the international series during the conference, which ■ •nds on December 16. Compton rode in the 5NZ22.000 Japan Cup, over 1600 m, against, nine other international jockeys. The race was confined to Indian ! bred horses. Compton’s mount,; Plmot Noir, was beaten by a short head, the shortest margin in India. The Malaysia-Singapore rider. M. C Lam, won the event, Oh Wild Blossom. Compton gained another ride on Sunday which also was f beaten bv a short head. In the 2400 m Biiay Cun. he rode the four-year-old Kohrisa, which; showed amazing eariy speed to lead for most of the race only tn be caught in the last few, strides. *
