Eve surgeon operates on Pure Glory

PA Auckland Pure Glory got the V.I.P. treatment after he received a dangerous eye injury in the Alison Stokes at Ellerslie One of the country’s leading eye specialists. Dr Calvin Ring, was asked to operate and repair damage which' could have brought the horse’s racing career to a premature end. Pure Glory went through • 90 minutes of delicate sur-| gery and it is believed the operation was a complete' success. A veterinary surgeon, Mrj Charles Roberts, thinks a! flying horseshoe did the damage. "We suspect a shoe was thrown and it may have a loose nail in it. The horse's eyeball was pierced.” Under New Zealand Racing Rules, a horse cannot run if it has the sight of only one eye, so it was im-i perative that Pure Glory { was operated on. •‘We were very lucky to I have Dr Ring. He is one of the great eye surgeons in! the country and the injury I needed very fine work,” said! Mr Roberts. Dr Ring is a steward of 1 the Auckland Racing Club. Under a general anaesthetic, Pure Glory had seven i stitches inserted and the ex-1 perts think his sight has ■ been saved.
