Farm workers
Sir. — The N.Z. Farm Workers’ Association regrets
the injustice done in overlooking the devoted work of Dick Eddy and Mr Robertson. However, it is significant that 1947 is the most recent date he notes and clearly the concern, of these people for the farm worker puts them far closer to the association than to the present N.Z.W.U. We are now under the Agricultural Workers’ Act passed in 1962 and the union has done less than nothing for farm workers since. When the association up-dated the 1959 minimum wage order in 1975 the union’s sole contribution was to delay it, as it has recently attempted to delay the promulgation of an order setting minimum conditions of employment, an end to summary dismissal, a right to sick leave, etc., issues dear to those concerned w'ith the needs of farm workers, their welfare and the proper staff-
ing of their industry.—Yours, etc., D. HEDDERWICK. December 6, 1976.
