Postal centre on time
Work on the new postal centre in Hereford Street is well up to schedule and may be compl on Hme, at the end of 1978, if it continues at the present pace. The contractors, Gibson and O'Connor, are a little behind schedule, but a spokesman for the Ministry of Works and Development said that they were not behind by a significant amount. The work had been on time until recently, and would be again soon, the spokesman said. The Ministry is supervising the work.
After the foundation work for the centre vas completed, early in 1975, at a cost of about $750,000, Gibson and O’Connor began their work. They will build the second stage, which is all the construction work above ground level. The second stage will cost about SIOM, and will be the shell of the new premises.
The Post Office will then fit the building with the latest equipment available overseas for the handling, sorting, and movement of mail.
