Doctors’ fees
Sir, — Would someone ot appropriate authority please answer this letter through this column, regarding charges made by general practitioners in Christchurch. I had been seeing a family doctor who charged 55.00. For others I know who attended, the same fee was charged. I now attend a new doctor who charges $3.00, 60 per cent less than my previous G.P. I rang the Health Department who advised me G.P’s charge “what they like”, and in all of Christchurch only 2 charge $5.00, — both working at the rooms I used to attend. I have had to wait up to If hours and now, at my new doctor wait an average of 10 minutes, and then get an apology. Why "then this vast difference, or possibly I do not fully understand charges as made by general practitioners. An explanation from either the Health Department or North Canterbury Hospital Board etc., would be appreciated —Yours, etc., G. J. VENNING. November 26, 1976.
