Top batsman joins Sydenham
Sydenham, at present lying second behind Lancaster Park in the Christchurch first grade cricket championship, should have its sometimes suspect batting line-up strengthened by the acquisition of the well-performed John Warrington. A left-hand opening batsman, Warrington made his debut for Sydenham in the second round of “The Press” twilight competition against Mari st last evening, and is expected to be available for the sixth series of inter-club fixtures on Saturday. Warrington has fashioned a very useful record in firstclass cricket, having represented Northern Districts in 1973-74 and Auckland last season. In 18 innings, he has made 497 runs at an average of 27.61. The highest of his four half-centuries was 85 for Northern against Central Districts, and he also wrested 80 runs from the Wellington attack while playing for Auckland. Before settling in this country, Warrington was a member of the Warwickshire second XI, and he is also a prominent soccer player.
