Robanna may be Lalor’s best

The combined efforts ofi Butch. Robanna and Bell Rock should give Jim Lalor high hopes of saddling his second major winner at the Greymouth Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Omoto today. The Ashburton stable-! mates will be rivals in the Dominion Breweries Handicap. first leg of the T.A.B. double. Butch will be going for his second win at the meeting under top-weight of 57 kg. On the lower scale minimum today, that represents a rise of 2.5 kg on his D. P. Wilson Memorial Challenge Cup weight but in his present form he should go very close again. Robanna is a newcomer at the meeting. She raised hopes of another win close at hand when third in the ! Miss Scsnicland Stakes at ' Hokitika last time out.

Bell Rock ran his usual honest race for fourth in the corresponding event on the first day. Ambrose Lodge, which ran Butch to a nose on Saturday, and Greek Prince, which edged Bell Rock out of third, would have to be rated among the top fancies again, as would Classic Legend, a last-start second to Mhorlight at Hokitika a week ago. Now that he has struck a winning patch again Kowhai Glen should prove too strong for the open sprinters in the second leg, the Ron King Handicap. Although he has topweight of 59kg, the Omototrained sprinter, in the hands of the Riccarton apprentice Brian Hibberd, will carry no more than 56.5 kg Conbrio, the best of Kowhai Glen’s rivals on Saturday. should again be the hardest for him to beat, and now that there has been some week-end rain to ease the ground the prospects of Eros and Hi Roona must also be considered. In addition to the T.A.B. double there will be a double for course patrons only on the D.B.
