N.Z. has ‘very good rubbish’
PA Auckland New Zealand produces "very good rubbish,” according to an Italian recycling authority, Dr G. Micara, in Wellington on Thursday. Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch were producing enough each day to make a recycling plant practical, he said. Rubbish disposal in New Zealand was beginning to become a problem similar to that suffered by Rome in the early 19605, said Dr Micara. Tips were polluting nearby lakes and rivers as well as causing air pollution. Local authorities must be ready to solve the problems now and not when they became impossible, DMicara said. New Zea land’s rubbish was of good type for recyclin’ containing a lot of pap< and organic material. Dr Micara’s company i. Rome processes 75 per cent of the city’s house hold rubbish. Only ash is used for landfill, everything else being recycled. Dr Micara estimated that a plant to handle Auckland’s 1000 tonnes of rubbish a day would cost SIBM.
