Arraignment on charge of murder
PA Invercargill Harold Gibson Soper, a 43-year-old farmer from Eyre Creek, Five Rivers, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of murdering Robert George Selbie at Eyre Cr.eek on September 7, 1976. At the conclusion of the taking of depositions in the Invercargill Magistrate’s Court before Mr E. B. Anderson, S.M., Soper pleaded not guilty to the charge. During the two-day lower Court hearing, evidence was given bj 23 witnesses, and 17 exhibits were produced. Mr J. R. Mills, and with him Mr B. J. Slowley appeared for the Crown. Soper was represented by Mr B. McClellan and Mr A. Jones.
