Apartheid ruling ‘left to press’
PA Wellington The Government had left iit to the press to inform | New Zealand sports bodies of the United Nations resoil utions on apartheid, said the Minister of Sport (Mr ! Highet). | Replying in Parliament to questions from Dr A. M. Finlay (Lab., Henderson), Mr Highet said the Government had judged it impracticable to circulate the resolutions individually to every sportiing body in the country. However, clubs intending Ito tour South Africa or host ■a South African tour of New Zealand would be briefed on I the resolutions if they ap- ' proached the Government with their plans. After the publicity given the resolutions and the visit to New York by the Minister of State (Sir Keith Holyoake), it could be expected 1 that all sporting bodies I would be aware of the Gov|emment’s stance.
