Corso holding running costs
PA Wellington Tighter disciplines had been imposed on running costs in line with the directive of Corso’s annual assembly to keep administrative expenses to a level of 30 per cent, the organisation’s chairman (the Rev. J. Healion) has told an executive council meeting at Porirua.
“The directive was not easy to achieve, particularly in view of the poor results of our annual appeal this year,” Father Heaiion said. “We had a lot of soul searching to do, and as a result had to make some cuts in staff.
“In keeping with our new philosophy of operation, these decisions were made jointly with the staff, and it was in this spirit of cooperation that a number of other decisions were made which will provide the organisation with the kind of planning necessary for our 1977 programme,” he said.
“We do not believe the administrative economies we have made in our budget for
[1977 will curtail Corso’s [future activities dr effectiveness,” he said.
“Despite this year’s dis-; appointing annual appeal, we: have allocated $236,756 for! the support of projects during 1976. Already more than 401 projects have been selected; for support in Africa, the; Middle East, India, Bangla-; desh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia,; Vietnam, the Philippines, and! the Pacific. In addition, we have continued our links! with international organis-i ations—U.N.I.C.E.F., Caritas, the World Council of Chur-; dies, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the Food and Agriculture Organisation—by allocating funds for their programmes.” A sum of $55,000 had also, been allocated towards ma- f terial aid for the supply of j milk powder and rison for; feeding programmes.
