New pavilions possible for United
New pavilions are mooted for the United tennis and croquet clubs in Hagley Park.
This plan was discussed at a social function held on Saturday evening to mark the seventieth anniversary of the founding of the two clubs. The Mayor (Mr Hay) was among the guests, and he expressed interest in the proposal.
A two-storeyed pavilion has been “home" for the tennis, croquet and bowls clubs in North Hagley for many years. The first tennis tournament was held on the site in conjunction with the Christchurch Exhibition of 1906.
The tennis and croquet clubs both have strong mem|berships at present, but fundi raising for the pavilions will [constitute a stiff challenge.
