France for Rangers

Ken France has been appointed coach of Rangers, probably New Zealand’s top part-time soccer coaching spot outside the Rothmans League. The club’s director of coaching, Bob Carter, who was at first thought likely to take the post again, was not willing to travel. Carter said he was delighted that France was joining the club as it would reunite a most successful former partnership. Carter was Canterbury coach for six years and selector for three, during which time France was the undisputed Canterbury captain, and they worked very well together. It was understood that France’s job as a policeman, might cause some difficulties because of the shift work and unusual hours involved, but France has resolved this as much as possible. He has been involved with many of the present Rangers players when he was the New Brighton coach in 1975 and many players were at the same club, and earlier as the Christchurch United captain.

France was not actively involved in soccer this season, but this might not prove a handicap.
