Badminton ran kings
The North Beach pair, Peter Whiting and Alison Ross, have predictably been ranked the top badminton players in Canterbury for the season just ended. They also filled the top positions last year, when provincial rankings were introduced. „ In fact, the top half of both the men’s and women's ladders are little different from last year. The top four men are unchanged and Brent Wilson moves up a place to fill the vacancy left by the return to Malaysia of last year’s No. 5, Lee Leong Kooi. . Brian Williams is seeded for the first time, at No. 6, and Michael Nolan makes a first appearance at No. 8. Lindsay Robinson holds his place at No. 7. Nolan had a useful club season and this probably got him on the list ahead of Charles Wasley, who played for Canterbury in a higher division. . Glenys Waller, who had insufficient performances to be i considered last year, is second to Miss Ross and Diane Erikson’s
improvement is recognised with her promotion from sixth to third. Chris Reay and Terri Perry have each dropped a place and Pat Duckmanton has improved one position, to No. 6. Janet Miles, who did not plat last year, is included at No. 7 and Sandra Chapman’s status is unchanged at No. 8, The senior rankings are:— Men.—P. Whiting 1, G. Miller 2, W. Edgecumbe 3, P- Boatwood 4, B. Wilson 5. B. Williams 6, L. Robinson 7. M. Nolan 8. Women.—Miss A. Ross 1, Mrs; G. WaUer 2, Miss D. Erikson 3, Miss C. Reay 4, Mrs T. Perry 5, Mrs P. R. Campbell 2. G. Paskell 3, P. Wilson 4, G. Kortegast 5, S. Harley 6. Girls. —Miss K. Burn 1, Miss T. Germon 2, Miss R. Kerr 3, Miss L. Kltchlngham 4, Miss J. Campbell 5, Miss R. McCarthy 6.
